How this show came to life...
With the transition to hybrid learning, we were fortunate to be able to rehearse for our show in person. This gave students a chance to learn the music in person, make connections with their characters and fellow cast members in a way that is more authentic to live theatre. Next, we began individual audio recordings for each person, for each song they sang. While this was happening, we also began rehearsing over Zoom. The next steps were to get everyone in costume and begin recording our Zoom sessions (we also had a few scenes that we shot with a camera) This gave us some creative liberty. Don't worry! We followed all covid guidelines while recording (the magice of editing). Once all the recordings were over, our musical director Katie Reuter, would isolate the best takes (often pulling single lines from one take and adding it to another) and then lining up all the individual tracks (up to 15+ for some songs!). Then they would be passed on to our sound editor, Israel Bloodgood. He would master and balance each track. Concurrently, once all of the Zoom footage was recorded, director Tana Walker, would review it, add links, background images, time stamps and notes to a video log for our video editor Heidi Bloodgood. From there, Heidi used a program called Davinci Resolve to edit the footage. Once we've reviewed and approved it all we upload it to the streaming service we use. And then it comes right to our audiences in their homes!
